Directing opera performances at Operastudio/Kulturama and Birkagårdens folkhögskola is another aspect of my artistic endeavors.
I always start with the music, its structure and turning points, which is how I begin to develop my own interpretation of the opera. Working with the music enables me to create a framework that helps the singers form their characters. The dialog is discussed on different levels; especially how words are shaped in order to reveal the subtext and enliven the opera. This way we differentiate between essentials and non-essentials moving towards the characters core.
This in-depth work, grounded in modern man’s living conditions, leads to a current interpretation of the opera. The result is emotionally moving and invites reflection.
